The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office and Trenton Police are investigating a police officer involved shooting that occurred in the 100 block of Pennington Avenue early Saturday evening.
According to authorities, detectives with the Trenton Police Street Crimes Task Force reportedly shot a male who reached for a handgun in his waistband while fleeing officers making stops in the area.
Police said the suspect reached for the handgun, then turned his body toward the pursuing detectives prompting police to fire at the suspect.
According to the prosecutor's office, two detectives fired their service weapons striking the male multiple times.
EMS rushed the suspect to Capital Health trauma center with gunshot wounds to both arms and stomach authorities said.
The detectives involved n the shooting were not struck by gunfire but were taken to a separate hospital as a precaution.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
