Officials said Mr. Junior Nunez, 33, from Paterson, was arrested in connection with a kidnapping and carjacking incident that triggered multiple Amber Alerts.
Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer-In-Charge Isa Abbassi confirmed the arrest following an investigation by the Paterson Police Department.
The incident occurred on June 27, 2024, at approximately 10:39 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a carjacking and kidnapping near Piercy Street and Holsman Street.
A 34-year-old female resident and her 2-year-old child were carjacked and kidnapped at gunpoint.
Police quickly identified Nunez as the suspect, leading to a warrant for his arrest. Authorities would not say if Nunez is related to the boy.
At around 6:53 a.m., Paterson Police arrested Nunez without incident. Fortunately, the victims were found in good health.
Nunez faces multiple charges, including First Degree Kidnapping, First Degree Carjacking, and several weapons charges.
The sentencing exposure for First Degree Kidnapping in New Jersey is 15 to 30 years in state prison, with 85% of the term to be served before parole eligibility under the No Early Release Act.
