Authorities in Passaic County reported the arrest of Mr. Erlyn Nunez, 21, of Paterson, for a violent shooting in late May.
According to a statement released by Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on Sunday, May 21, at approximately 2:25 a.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to the area of River Street and East 13th Street on a shooting report.
Upon arrival, Prosecutor Valdes said officers located one victim, a 22-year-old male from Paterson, with gunshot wounds.
The wounded was transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. Prosecutor Valdes said the investigation also revealed that the shooting occurred in the area of River Street and East 13th Street and that Nunez was the individual who fired the weapon that ultimately killed the victim.
Police charged Mr. Nunez with Murder, first degree, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, second degree, Unlawful Possession of an Assault Firearm, second degree, and Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine, fourth degree.
Despite these accusations, Mr. Nunez is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
