Suspect Arrested After Vehicle Rams Police in Newark Joint Weapon Investigation

At approximately 3:35 p.m. today, Thursday, during a joint weapon investigation, Newark Police and members of the NJ State Police attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop of a Jeep and a white Corvette in the 200 block of Orange Street, according to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé.AdThe driver of the Jeep rammed an unmarked NJ State Police patrol vehicle and then an unmarked Newark Police vehicle three times before being placed under arrest at the scene.

A weapon was recovered from the Jeep.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Corvette swiped the front bumper of the Newark Police vehicle before fleeing eastbound on Orange Street.

The Corvette then sideswiped a private vehicle at Clifton Avenue and Orange Street before entering Route 280 and heading westbound. Police did not pursue the Corvette.

No injuries have been reported.
