Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor and Franklin Township Chief of Police Lawrence Roberts announced that the investigation regarding last evening’s Franklin Township bank robbery is continuing.
Prosecutor Robertson stated that on Wednesday at approximately 6:00 p.m., Franklin Township Police responded to an alarm activation at the Chase Bank, located on Elizabeth Avenue in the Somerset section of Franklin Township.
Responding officers met with bank employees who reported that an unknown black male suspect approached a bank teller and handed them a note announcing the robbery while he motioned towards his waistband as if he had a concealed weapon.
The suspect fled from the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of currency.
A description of the suspect was broadcast to surrounding law enforcement agencies by the Somerset County Communications Center.
Prosecutor Robertson stated that detectives from the Franklin Township Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded to conduct the investigation.
Special Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Franklin Field Office are also assisting in the ongoing investigation.
The suspect is described as a dark skinned black male, approximately 6’2”, muscular build, wearing a dark grey ski cap.
Detectives have release a surveillance picture of the suspect, obtained from video footage, in an attempt to identify him with the public’s assistance.
Detectives are urging the public to report but not approach the suspect if you know their identity and whereabouts.
