The City of Summit has announced a lineup of festive events to celebrate the holiday season, offering something for every member of the community.
From Thanksgiving celebrations to menorah lightings and holiday markets, residents and visitors can enjoy a range of activities throughout November and December 2024. Thanksgiving Festivities
Summit’s annual community Thanksgiving meal will take place on Thursday, November 28, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Community Center, located at 100 Morris Avenue. The catered meal will feature roast turkey, traditional side dishes, desserts, and beverages. Guests can also enjoy a game of touch football, open gym activities, a Thanksgiving-themed family movie, and arts and crafts for children. The event is free and open to all, with no pre-registration required.
To ensure accessibility, the Senior Connections Bus will provide transportation for seniors and individuals with disabilities. Residents in need of transportation can schedule a ride by calling 908-277-2932 or emailing dguidajr@cityofsummit.org.
Holiday Tree Lighting and “Miracle on Elm Street”
On Saturday, November 30, Summit will host its annual **Miracle on Elm Street** event and holiday tree lighting. Festivities on the Village Green will run from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and include ice skating, caroling, performances, cookie decorating, and complimentary hot beverages.
From 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., attendees can take photos with Santa, and at 5 p.m., the holiday tree lighting will take place, led by Mayor Elizabeth Fagan, MD. Santa will make a grand entrance aboard a Summit Fire Department fire truck to assist with the tree lighting. For more information, contact the Department of Community Programs at 908-277-2932.
Menorah Lighting Ceremony
Congregation Ohr Shalom invites the community to a menorah lighting ceremony on Sunday, December 29, at 6 p.m. on the Village Green. All members of the public are welcome to attend this celebration of the Festival of Lights.
Summit Downtown, Inc. Events
Summit Downtown, Inc. (SDI) will also host a series of festive activities, ensuring the holiday spirit extends throughout the season:
- Small Business Saturday: November 30
- Carriages and Carolers: November 30, December 7, 14, and 21
- HillTop Elf Scavenger Hunt: November 30 through December 21
- Celebrate in Summit: December 21
- Summit Farmers Market: Open November 24 (8 a.m. - 1 p.m.) and December 8, 15, and 22 (8 a.m. - 12 p.m.).
The market will be closed on December 1. With these exciting events, Summit is set to bring the community together to celebrate the warmth and joy of the holiday season.
