As Newark, NJ, High School students prepare for today's commencement ceremonies, they will be greeted by a weather forecast that signals the arrival of summer.
According to The National Weather Service, the temperature and humidity will rise today, creating a summer-like atmosphere. Forecasters say residents should also be prepared for showers and the possibility of thunderstorms later in the day.
With an 87% humidity level, NWS meteorologists say the air will feel slightly muggy, but a light east wind blowing at 3 mph will help provide some relief.
The barometer reading of 30.07 indicates relatively stable atmospheric pressure, suggesting that the weather conditions will persist throughout the day.
NWS meteorologists say the forecast calls for showers likely, with a 70% chance of precipitation. Thunderstorms are also possible after 2 p.m., adding an element of excitement to the day.
Students should be prepared with umbrellas or raincoats to navigate the wet conditions. The high temperature will reach around 79 degrees, allowing for a warm and comfortable day despite the rain.
Rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch are expected, replenishing the ground and providing relief from dry conditions.
The evening will likely see a continuation of showers and the possibility of a thunderstorm before 8 p.m. NWS forecasters say there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms. The low temperature will be around 67 degrees, maintaining the mild and humid feel of the day.
