Authorities in Union County are currently investigating a car accident that occurred in Mountainside on Sunday, March 25, 2024, which left two people injured.The incident took place around 4:30 p.m. at the busy intersection of Route 22 and Lawrence Ave, causing significant disruptions.
Police said the collision involved a 2012 Honda, driven by a 69-year-old woman from Somerset, and a 2024 Acura, operated by a 46-year-old woman from Bridgewater.
According to Mountainside Police, the Honda driver made a sudden lane change in the westbound fast lane to avoid a collision with the car in front of her.
This maneuver led her to strike the Acura, resulting in the Honda overturning.
Both drivers were promptly transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries sustained during the accident.
Officer Eric Pastore of the Mountainside Police Department issued two motor vehicle summonses to the Honda driver for making an unsafe lane change and causing the car to overturn.
The accident caused one lane of Route 22 to be closed for about an hour as the investigation proceeded, and the damaged vehicles were removed from the scene.
The incident not only highlights the dangers of abrupt lane changes but also the swift response of local law enforcement and emergency services in managing the situation and ensuring public safety.
