A teenaged boy found with a gun inside a Newark Public School placed the building on lockdown mode earlier this afternoon.
According to the preliminary reports, police were called to the Weequahic High School to investigate reports of a weapon inside the school just before 1 p.m.
Units arrived at the scene and placed the entire building on lockdown after they reportedly found a gun inside that belonged to an Eagle Academy student.
School officials say the building is a shared facility with Weequahic High School and Eagle Academy.
The boy was placed into custody at around 2:15 p.m. and building administrators dismissed the students for the day at around 2:30 according to officials.
The incident remains under investigation.
