TRENTON: The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office is looking into a shooting that involved an officer in Trenton on Saturday morning.
According to a statement released by police, at approximately 1:51 am, Trenton Police Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of South Clinton Avenue on the report of a street fight.
Police say when the first officer arrived on the scene, he, along with two other individuals, attempted to take a suspect, who was being restrained, into custody.
Mercer County Prosecutor's Office officials say despite commands to cease the assault, the suspect, who was armed with a knife, began stabbing the two individuals that were attempting to restrain him.
The officer then fired his weapon, striking the suspect, who then caused the suspect to stop his attack, according to Mercer County officials.
The suspect was then taken into custody.
The two male victims, who had suffered stab wounds, as well as the suspect, were all transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Mercer County officials say, one victim was rushed to emergency surgery and the other is currently stable. The suspect is also stable and admitted for treatment.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office was immediately contacted, as required by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Guidelines.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office is conducting the investigation, which is active and ongoing.
