It took us a few years to realize that we needed a more efficient way to grow our separate business ventures without straining our marriage.
And to be clear, the 'strain' didn't initially feel like a strain.
It was a gradual process.
It started slowly with constant late nights working without scheduling time for our marriage.
The times that we did have planned for a date or quality time together turned into work 2.0.
Initially, it didn't make a difference to us. We were willing to pay the price, or so we thought.
The problem was that we eventually grew apart and started feeling like roommates with similar interests, but that was it.
We thought that was the only way to work together because that's all we ever witnessed.
Sometimes you have to be the first story you witness to do what you never saw done before.
We decided to make a change and get serious about how we were building together. We leaned into what we wanted our marriage and businesses to look like and started working backward.
It took nearly ten years to get a good rhythm down- but it's been worth it. The ten years were going to pass anyway. One of the primary tools we've been using over the years is the Quarterly legacy meetings. They cover the progress of our marriage goals and our business growth.
The most powerful Quarterly meeting is Q3. It is the mile marker for the year's halfway point, so it clarifies how on track we are. If we're missing targets, we have the next six months to fix it by God's grace.
