A strong armed carjacking that happened in Newark had police in Hillside capture two suspects Wednesday evening.
Police responded to reports of a carjacking that happened in the area of Frelinghuysen Avenue and Empire Street shortly before 6 p.m. when officers arrived to find the owner who reported that several black male suspects forced their way into his vehicle ordered him out before speeding away.
Officer canvassing the area spotted the vehicle and attempted to pull it over when the suspects rammed into a Newark Police cruiser, then continued to flee towards Hillside.
Hillside authorities (who were already on patrol in the area) were called for assistance when they noticed the vehicle driving erratically on North Broad Street.
When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, the vehicle continued to elude officers.
Several suspects bailed from the vehicle and began to run once the vehicle came to a halt in the area of Meeker and Elizabeth Avenue.
Hillside cops were able to apprehend two of the suspects after a brief foot pursuit.
There were no injuries reported.
