Police in Newark has released reports of increased enforcement on the city's portion of McCarter Highway/ Rt.21acording to a press release.
According to Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose, radar enforcement of traffic violations along Route 21 in the city has generated 210 moving violations and two vehicle tows since September 9, 2016.
Director Ambrose said, of the 210 moving violations, 124 were radar summonses issued for speeding.
“Our radar traffic enforcement efforts are in light of recent accidents in which people were struck, injured or killed,” said Director Ambrose.
Director Ambrose announced that on the weekend September 9th and 10th (Friday and Saturday), Route 21 radar enforcement generated 41 moving violations; 72 radar summonses; and 2 tows.
On Friday and Saturday, September 16th and 17th, the same enforcement generated 45 moving violations; 52 radar summonses; and 0 tows Director Ambrose said.
“We often see an increase in motor vehicle violations on Route 21 at nights and on weekends because traffic is lighter during these times,” Director Ambrose added.
“The issuing of over 200 summonses in two weeks is an indication that radar enforcement is an effective public safety tool.”
