Hudson and Essex County Emergency responders and rescue crews are being lauded for a stellar rescue operation after they swiftly rescued a man who jumped from a bridge in Newark.
Emergency responders rushed to the aid of a man who threatened to jump from a bridge on the Harrison-Newark border early Tuesday morning according to officials.
According to authorities, motorist contacted police when they observed the man began to climb over the railing of the Bridge on Bridge Street at approximately 4 a.m.
Authorities requested assistance and boats from Kearny and Bayonne while they negotiated with the man in an attempt to get him to come down off the bridge.
After about an hour of negotiating with the man, he jumped into the frigid waters of the Passaic River according to reports.
Rescue crews on boats under the bridge, sprung into action once the man plunged into the water.
The unidentified man was whisked into boats then transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Officials say all emergency responders and rescue crews were accounted for immediately after the incident with no injuries reported.
