The Christie administration has ordered four low-performing charter schools, three of which are in Newark, to close by the end of this school year.
The State Department of Education announced that after further review, the three Newark schools - Newark Prep Charter School, Paulo Friere Charter School, and Merit Prep Charter School - who had been on probation for academic problems, would close their doors at the end of this school year.
The fourth school rejected to renew was the Camden Community Charter School.
A total of 22 charter school expansion requests around NJ were approved.
