South River Volunteer Firefighter Charged with Criminal Sexual Contact

Middlesex County officials announced that a volunteer firefighter has been arrested and charged with criminal sexual contact with an adult female victim who was known to him.

Authorities said on May 21, Raymond Brown, 67, of South River was arrested and charged with one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact.

An investigation by Sergeant Bernard Mackiel of the South River Police Department and Detective Javier Morillo of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that during the early afternoon of May 21, 2021, Brown engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with the victim in the Borough of South River.

The investigation further determined Brown serves as a volunteer firefighter with the South River Fire Department.

The investigation is active and continuing. As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Brown are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
