Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief James Parker of the South Plainfield Police Department announced that a South Plainfield High School teacher was arrested today and charged with sexually assaulting a boy for nearly five-year period, beginning when the child was 15 years old.
John Angeline, 40, of South Plainfield was charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, both second degree offenses, and a third degree count of criminal sexual contact.
Angeline, who worked at the high school as an English teacher, is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick and is waiting for bail to be set.
He was arrested and charged during an investigation by Detective George Stilwell of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Detective Lloyd McNelly of the South Plainfield Police Department.
During the investigation it was determined that Angeline began sexually assaulting the child in South Plainfield on various occasions, beginning in August 2010, when the child was 15 years old.
Police began the investigation after the victim told relatives, who contacted authorities.
Angeline began working as a substitute teacher in South Plainfield in September 2005, and started fulltime as an English teacher at the Middle School in February 2006. He has worked at the high school since September 2008.
The investigation is active and is continuing.
