Police are searching for a person of interest in a bank robbery which prompted two school lock downs this afternoon.
According to police, today there was a bank robbery in South Plainfield.
A person of interest was believed to have been seen on foot in the area of Woodland Avenue and Seventh Street. As a precautionary measure, Woodland School (730 Central Street, Plainfield) and Maxon School (920 East Seventh Street) have been placed on lock down.
Shortly after 4 p.m., police announced that after an extensive search without results, it was determined that there was no eminent threat to the students, so the lockdown was lifted and the children were dismissed from both schools with a police presence.
The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall, heavy set. He was last seen wearing gray hoodie.
