South Bound Brook Resident Charged with Identity Theft

SOUTH BOUND BROOK, N.J. – Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor, South Bound Brook Chief of Police Jeffrey Titus, and Bound Brook Chief of Police Vito Bet announced the arrest of Sherman Martin, 26 of Swing Bridge Lane, South Bound Brook.

Prosecutor Robertson stated on August 22, 2019, after an approximately month-long investigation into identity theft and fraud, the South Bound Brook Department, with the assistance of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and the Bound Brook Police Department, executed a Superior Court-issued search warrant at defendant Martin’s Swing Bridge Lane residence.

The investigation began after the South Bound Brook Police Department encountered defendant Martin during a motor vehicle stop and determined he was using a stolen identity and a vehicle registered under that stolen identity.

As a result of the search warrant execution, various items of evidence were seized.

Defendant Martin was subsequently arrested without incident. An additional male present during the search warrant execution, Malcolm Pierce of Paterson, New Jersey, was arrested after being found to have outstanding warrants.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that defendant Martin was charged with two counts of 2nd degree identity theft and two counts of 3rd degree identity theft, as well as several disorderly persons offenses.

He was lodged at the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing. Additional charges may be pending.
