In a heartwarming addition to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., and Victim Witness Coordinator Erin Rocchietti proudly announced the arrival of their newest team member: a 68-pound Labrador/Golden Retriever mix named Liam. AdLiam, who retired from the Seeing Eye program, joined the office in June 2024. At just 2.5 years old, Liam is already making a significant impact as he trains for his new role as a K9 Therapy Dog.

Partnered with Erin Rocchietti, Coordinator of the Victim Witness Unit, Liam is being prepared to provide much-needed comfort and support to victims of crime and their families.

Prosecutor McDonald emphasized Liam’s future role in offering solace to those in distress.

"When fully trained and certified, Liam will be a comforting presence for victims at the Prosecutor’s Office Child Advocacy Center (CAC) and the courthouse. He will be available to any child coming into the CAC for a forensic interview, providing a compassionate way to help traumatized survivors share their experiences."

Liam's presence aims to ease the stress of attending meetings related to criminal charges and trial preparations.

The Victim Witness staff, who tirelessly support victims, are eager to integrate Liam into their efforts to prevent re-traumatizing those involved in the criminal justice process.

The inspiration for the SCPO K9 Therapy Dog program came from the calming effect dogs have at home after a long day.

The team at the Prosecutor’s Office sought to bring this sense of calm to victims of crimes, offering them a source of comfort during challenging times.AdLiam’s journey with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office is just beginning, and upon completion of his training, he will be sworn in as the first official K9 Therapy Dog for the office.

The community welcomes Liam with open arms, ready to embrace the compassion and comfort he brings.
