Soggy and Cold Start to the Week in Newark, North Jersey Region

Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

Residents across Newark and much of northern New Jersey are waking up to a damp and chilly Monday morning, with steady rain and colder temperatures setting the tone for the day.

According to the National Weather Service, rain is expected to continue on and off throughout the morning, tapering off around 11 a.m.

Temperatures in downtown Newark were hovering around 42 degrees early this morning, with a high expected near 44.

Winds from the northeast will blow between 6 and 9 mph, adding to the brisk feel.

If you're heading out to work, it’s a good idea to grab both an umbrella and a warm coat. Some areas, especially farther north in Sussex County, are seeing sleet and frozen precipitation due to dropping temperatures.

Drivers should be cautious and prepared for slick spots in those regions.

Looking ahead to Monday night, skies are expected to gradually clear, with only a slight 20 percent chance of rain before midnight.

Temperatures will dip to a low near 34 degrees.

While some areas might see the sun peek through the clouds later in the day, it will largely remain gray and cool.

Bundle up, stay dry, and have a great start to your week.
