Police are investigating a crash that killed one person in Newark overnight.
Emergency responders and rescue crews rushed to the intersection of Frelinghuysen Avenue and East Peddie Street shortly before 11 p.m. for a crash with injuries reported.
Upon their arrival, they found a vehicle overturned with at least one person trapped inside at that location.
Crews were able to swiftly extricate the unconscious and unresponsive person from the vehicle according to authorities.
The unidentified person was confirmed pronounced dead a short time later reports said.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the car traveled on Frelinghuysen Avenue, lost control and struck a fire hydrant, then rolled over several times trapping the driver.
The official cause of the crash remains under investigation.
