ShotSpotter Device Detects Shooting on South Orange Avenue in Newark

Police in Newark recovered shell casings at the scene of a shooting in the city's Upper West Ward early Saturday morning.  

Officers responded to reports of shots fired near South Orange Avenue and St. Pauls after midnight. 

When police arrived at the scene, they found multiple shell casings, but no victims were located while searching the vicinity. 

It is unclear who the suspect was firing at or their motive at this time. 

Authorities are crediting the ShotSpotter gunfire detection devices for alerting headquarters of the shooting. 

The suspect remains at large.
