ShotSpotter Device Detects Over Two Dozen Rounds of Gunfire Near Newark Cemetery, Vehicles Hit

Newark Police are currently searching for an armed suspect responsible for firing over two dozen rounds near Fairmont Cemetery, resulting in damage to two vehicles.AdThe incident, which took place on Thursday night, was initially detected by a ShotSpotter device that recorded 25 rounds of gunfire at around 9:20 p.m. near 379 South 18th Street.

Upon arrival, officers discovered numerous shell casings and observed that two cars had been struck by bullets.

A thorough search of the surrounding area, including near the cemetery, confirmed there were no injuries.AdThe suspect had fled the scene by the time police arrived and remains at large.

Authorities are working to determine the motive behind the shooting and are appealing to the public for any information that may lead to the apprehension of the suspect.
