ShotSpotter Device Detects Nearly a Dozen Rounds of Gunfire in Newark's Central Ward; Injuries

Police officials in Newark are trying to determine if a male who entered University Hospital suffering a bullet wound  was caught in a hail of gunfire in the city’s Central Ward this evening. 

A ShotSpotter device alerted police of about a dozen round of gunfire that erupted near 85 Prince Street just before 8 p.m. 

Officers arrived and found multiple shell casings but no victims were located after police searched the neighborhood. 

While detectives investigated at the crime scene, they were alerted by Univesity Hospital that a male was transported by private vehicle to the emergency room suffering a bullet wound in his shoulder. 

UPDATE 8:29 p.m. A second gunshot victim was located. The entire incident reportedly originated near 33 Irvine Turner Boukevard (housing complex). 

Police confiscated the car for the active and ongoing investigation.
