Police in Newark are crediting a ShotSpotter device for alerting them to a shooting incident in the Central Ward on Tuesday evening.According to a preliminary investigation, the device activated shortly before 7:50 p.m., prompting units to respond to the vicinity of 83 Barclay Street following reports of shots fired.
Upon arrival, officers found evidence of a shooting, including shell casings, and conducted a thorough search of the neighborhood, including the area around Jesse Allen Park.
Despite the findings, no victims were located at the scene. Authorities confirmed that the suspect fled before police arrived and remains at large.
The Newark Shooting Response Team is actively investigating the incident, with efforts underway to identify and locate the individuals involved.
