Police in Newark’s North Ward are crediting a ShotSpotter device for alerting them to a shooting incident in one of the neighborhoods late Friday night.
The incident happened around 9:27 p.m. in the area of 764 Broadway, where several rounds of gunfire set off the ShotSpotter system.Officers quickly arrived at the scene and found evidence of a shooting, including multiple shell casings.
However, after canvassing the area, no injuries were reported.
Police also placed local hospitals on alert for potential walk-in gunshot victims, but no injuries were reported from the incident.
The shooting is currently under investigation as police work to gather more information and determine the circumstances surrounding the gunfire.
