Late Tuesday night, a ShotSpotter device played a crucial role in alerting Newark police to a shooting incident along a busy stretch of McCarter Highway in the city's East Ward.Multiple rounds of gunfire, which involved over a dozen rounds, were reported around 11 p.m. near the intersection of Murray Street and McCarter Highway.
Upon arrival, officers found multiple shell casings and promptly closed traffic on McCarter Highway to investigate further.
Despite a thorough search of the area, police were unable to locate any victims at the scene.
Local hospitals have been placed on alert for any individuals who may arrive with gunshot wounds related to this incident.
The suspect remains at large, and the investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Authorities are seeking any information from the public that may help identify and apprehend the suspect responsible for this act of violence.
