ShotSpotter Alerts Police to Broad Daylight Shooting in Newark

Police in Newark are searching for a suspect involved in a broad daylight shooting that caused property damage in a neighborhood on Wednesday.

A ShotSpotter device activated around 2:25 p.m., alerting authorities to gunfire in the area of  34 3rd Street.

When officers arrived, they secured the area and located several shell casings.

Bullets struck a vehicle, but fortunately, no one was inside at the time. The Newark Shooting Response Team was called in to assist with the investigation.

No arrests have been made, and the motive for the shooting remains unclear as police continue to investigate the incident.
