Late Sunday night, the streets of Newark's South Ward were disrupted by the sound of gunfire, triggering a response from police.Officers were alerted to the incident by a ShotSpotter device, which detected multiple gunshots near the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue and Earl Street just before 10 p.m.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered several shell casings in the area, indicating the occurrence of a shooting. However, despite an extensive search, no gunshot victims were found.
In response to the incident, Newark's Major Crimes Unit and Shooting Team were mobilized to assist in the investigation.
Despite their efforts, no arrests have been made thus far.
The activation of the ShotSpotter device demonstrates the importance of such technology in alerting law enforcement to potentially dangerous situations, allowing for a prompt and effective response to ensure public safety.
