ShotSpotter Activations Detect Multiple Separate Shooting Incidents in Newark

Police reported no injuries in about four shots fired incidents that erupted in Newark overnight.

In the shootings, police said ShotSpotter devices activated in several neighborhoods in the city, prompting police investigation through the night. 

Police say, just before 7:15 p.m., East Orange and Newark Police searched for shell casings on their borders after a gunman fired rounds in the area of South Orange and Stuyvesant avenues in the city's West Ward. 

East Orange units left the area after Newark confirmed that the shooting happened on their side of the street and shell casings were recovered, but there were no victims. 

At approximately 3:20 a.m., Newark North Ward officers were alerted of shots fired in the 100 block of Riverside Court. Officers arrived and found shell casings, but after searching the area, there were no injuries reported. 

According to police, authorities were alerted of shots fired near 493 Avon Avenue around 3:20 a.m. 

Officers arrived and processed the scene while they searched for victims at that location. The suspect fled the scene and is at large. 

Police said, over in the city's Central Ward, gunfire erupted in the vicinity of 35 Kent Street shortly before 3:25 a.m. When officers arrived, they recovered ballistics, but no property damage or victims were immediately reported. 

No arrests have been reported in any of the incidents.
