In a Saturday night incident, Newark Police were alerted to a shooting by ShotSpotter devices, which led them to the scene near Fairmont Cemetery on 18th Street.
The alert, which came around 7:30 p.m., prompted a rapid response from the authorities to investigate reports of shots fired in the area.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found shell casings, confirming that a shooting had indeed taken place. However, initially, no victims were discovered in the surrounding residential neighborhood.
The situation took a turn when, during the course of the investigation, police were informed that a gunshot victim had arrived at University Hospital.
The victim, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, is believed to have been injured at the South 18th Street crime scene.
The investigation into this shooting remains active and ongoing. No other injuries were reported.
