Authorities in Jersey City checked several hospitals in the region for victims suffering gunshot wounds after a shots fired incident occurred in an area of the city Sunday morning.
According to preliminary reports, police responded to calls reporting shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of 306 Arlington Avenue at approximately 4:40 a.m.
Units arrived at the scene found evidence that a shooting occurred and blood at the scene to suggest bullets may have struck a person.
At approximately 4:48 a.m., one person checked into Jersey City Medical center suffering a gunshot wound to the leg according to preliminary reports.
Medical professionals and hospital officials contacted police then treated the victim's non-life threatening injuries according to reports.
Police believe that the victim's gunshot wound was self-inflicted, but authorities have launched an investigation into the motive for the shooting.
