Police in Newark's North Ward responded to reports of a shooting in the vicinity of 36 Halleck Street around 9:40 p.m.Upon arrival, overnight officers discovered shell casings at the scene and promptly cordoned off the area. The Newark Shooting Response team was called to assist in the investigation.
Despite the gunfire, no injuries were reported.
Law enforcement officials credited the activation of a ShotSpotter device for alerting them to the shooting, allowing for a swift response.
Currently, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify any potential suspects.
