Police officials in Newark are investigating a shots fired incident that occurred near two schools in the city’s West Ward on Monday.According to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé, at approximately 3:35 p.m., Newark Police officers responded to reports of shots fired at the intersection of South 11th Street and South Orange Avenue.
Upon arrival, units found evidence of a shooting but did not locate any victims.
Officers cordoned off South Orange Avenue between South 11th Street and South 12 Street.
However, no evidence of a shooting, such as shell casings, was reported by Director Frage near the nearby West Side High School or KIPP Rise Academy Charter School, formerly St. Rocco’s School, located on Ashland Street.
Director Fragé stated that the incident remains under investigation.
