Newark authorities are investigating a shooting incident that left a man severely injured in the South Ward Saturday night.
It happened before 10:30 p.m. in the area of Maple and Chancellor Avenues.
Police were dispatched to the location after headquarters reported a person shot.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim suffering a bullet wound in his stomach. The unidentified victim was rushed to the University Hospital hospital for treatment while officers searched the crime scene for evidence to support a motive for the attack.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene and has not been captured.
No other injuries were reported.
