Police in Elizabeth are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday outside a school in the city.
According to preliminary reports, officers responded to reports of shots fired just outside of School 9 on 3rd Street, where officers arrived to find about a dozen shell casings at that location.
There were no life-threatening injuries reported.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
The Elizabeth Board of Education issued the following statement in regards to the investigation:
"Please be advised that the Elizabeth Police Department has cordoned off an area near the Jerome Dunn School No. 9 property as part of an ongoing investigation of an incident that took place near the school on the night of Sunday, July 9. The incident, and the area that has been closed for investigation. The activities that are hosted by Elizabeth Public Schools at School No. 9. Operation of summer programs at School No. 9 have not been affected by the impending investigation and continue to run as regularly scheduled."
