A shooting in Newark's West Ward on Wednesday night left a female dead, according to authorities.
The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. on the 300 block of South 7th Street, prompting a significant police response.
When officers arrived, they discovered an unidentified woman suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite efforts to render aid, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.
Authorities have not released additional details at this time.
