Police officers from both Newark and East Orange responded to a shooting incident early Saturday morning that occurred along the border of Newark’s West Ward.
According to preliminary reports, a ShotSpotter device detected gunfire near Maybaum and Whittlesey Streets, prompting a response from both departments. 
Upon arrival, officers secured the area, with East Orange police appearing to take the lead in the investigation.
Shell casings were reportedly found on the East Orange side of the border.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
Authorities have not yet released any further details.
