The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office has taken the lead in the investigation into a shooting that left a person dead on a street in Trenton on Friday morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of East State Street and South Warren Street around 4:45 a.m.
Responding officers arrived and found an unidentified person suffering gunshot wounds near the bus station at that location.
Police say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers taped off the area as detectives searched for evidence to support a motive for the shooting.
The investigation into the incident is in its early stages, active and ongoing.
