Shooting in Downtown Newark Leaves One Injured

Police have established a crime scene and launched an investigation following a shooting in the heart of downtown Newark this evening.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Broad and Market Streets, one of the city’s busiest areas.AdOfficers were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a person shot. Upon arrival, they found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police Director Frage said the victim reported that he observed two other men engaged in a verbal altercation before one of the males brandished a handgun.

Although the victim attempted to flee the scene, he suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot injury. Emergency Medical Services rushed him to University Hospital.

The shooting, which took place in full view of shoppers and commuters, left many witnesses in shock.

Broad and Market is one of the busiest intersections in the state, making the incident particularly alarming for those in the area.

At this time, the motive for the shooting remains unclear and no arrests have been made.AdThe investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
