Severe Injuries for Woman Struck by Tractor Trailer on NJ Turnpike in Newark

Offcials for the NJ State Police are investigating a pedestrian strike that left a woman severely injured on the NJ Turnpike Monday afternoon.

According to a statement released by State Police, at approximately 3:04 p.m., emergency rescue crews responded to reports of a person struck in the western spur's southbound lanes of the highway near milepost 107.8 in Newark.

When police and EMS arrived at the scene, they found good Samaritans applying a tourniquet to the partially amputated leg of a woman who was struck by a tractor-trailer.

NJ State Police said a preliminary investigation indicated that the 25-year-old Asian woman passenger from Briarwood, New York, exited the car for an unknown reason and was struck by the truck.

Witnesses said who pulled over to help the woman said it appeared as if the woman was attempting to retrieve a dog that escaped the car before the truck hit her.

There were no other injuries reported.
