EMS rushed two people to an area hospital suffering serious injuries after gunfire erupted on a Plainfield Street early this morning -Sunday-
Reports of shots fired sent police to the New Street at approximately 1 a.m. where several police units arrived to find two victims suffering gunshot wounds. Officers set up a crime scene around an unoccupied vehicle that appeared to obtain damage after bullets struck it.
Emergency responders provided life-saving techniques on at least one of the victims according to preliminary reports.
Plainfield Police are actively investigating a motive for the shooting.
Although officials would only release life-threatening injuries as of 5:58 a.m., detectives from the Union County Prosecutor's Office were notified and are assisting in the investigation according to Plainfield Police officials.
There were no arrests immediately reported.
