A gunman fired over two dozen rounds of bullets in an Elizabeth neighborhood that struck two victims, leaving one of them severely injured Tuesday.
The early morning shooting happened around 2:40 a.m. in the vicinity of 447 Elizabeth Avenue .
According to a preliminary investigation, police responded to reports of shots fired in the neighborhood.
When they arrived at the scene, they found about 30 shell casings on the ground and two unidentified victims struck by bullets.
One of the victims was transported to Trinitas Hospital while EMS rushed the second patient to University Hospital in Newark for treatment.
Officials reported "grave injuries" for the victims rushed to Trinitas Hospital.
The Union County Prosecutor's Office was notified of the shooting and will assist in the investigation.
The motive for the attack is under investigation.
