As many as four people suffered gunshot wounds after gunfire erupted on a street in Paterson late Friday night.
According to preliminary reports, Paterson Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the 70’s block of Jefferson at around 11:10 p.m.
When units arrived at the scene, they found the victims suffering gunshot wounds to various parts of their bodies according to reports.
All of the injured were transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in stable condition.
Police say a woman and a male were struck in their stomachs while the other two male victims suffered bullet wounds to their legs and ankle.
According to witnesses at the scene, at least two shooters were observed crouch down -military style- as the victims walked down the block. As the victims got closer, the suspects reportedly surprised them and began to fire multiple rounds.
Witnesses say after the shooting, the suspects fled the scene on foot.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
