Police in Newark are investigating several reports of shots fired that occurred overnight around the city.
In the latest instance, a police crime scene had residents in the single digit block of Grafton Avenue delayed from leaving for work this morning after suspects fired more than a half-dozen rounds inside the Riverside Villa Apartment complex sending police to the scene a little after 3:30 a.m.
A search of the area had no injured victims located according to preliminary reports. There is an active investigation underway.
In our early morning report, four people were taken to the hospital after gunfire rang out in the area of Fabyan Place near Beverly around the same time as the Grafton Avenue shooting scene. Reports of shots fired in the 400 block of South 10th Street had police on the scene before 2:45 a.m. where a male victim told arriving officers that he was shot at several times by a vehicle that drove through the neighborhood. There were no injuries and police have launched an investigation.
There were non-life threatening injuries reported for the victim of a shooting that occurred shortly before 1 a.m. in the 50's block of Sayre St. EMS transported the victim to the hospital and launched an investigation into who fired several shots at the victim.
In the city's West Ward, police are looking into a shooting that occurred before 12:30 a.m. that had police near the intersection of Alexander and Lindsley. Officers arriving at the scene found several shell casings, but there were no injured victims reported. Police canvassing the area located a vehicle struck by bullets in the 100 block of Alexander.
Reports of a shooting that occurred in the 200 block of Sussex Avenue before 11 p.m. had emergency responders on the scene where they found a person struck in the face by a suspect who fired a paintball gun at that location. The victim did not suffer any injuries.
There were no arrests reported in any of the incidents.
