Newark fire officials are reporting no injuries in a fire that erupted inside a mixed-use building in the city's Ironbound section on Wednesday evening.
According to a preliminary investigation, at approximately 5:45 p.m., firefighters were called to Lancers Restaurant to investigate reports of a fire inside the structure.
Upon arrival, crews found smoke and flames coming from the restaurant with apartments on the top floor.
Officials say firefighters were able to get inside the structures and knock the fire down, but not before the blaze left damage that displaced about a half-dozen residents.
The fire was brought under control at around 6:20 p.m., with a search of the building for trapped and injured occupants coming back negative.
Officials say The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist residents affected by the blaze.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
