Fire officials in Newark are investigating the cause of a fire that tore through a house in Newark late last night leaving several people homeless.
Heavy fire broke out in an unoccupied house located at 745 South 12th Street sending firefighters to the scene where they arrived to find fire tearing through the roof of a three-story building just before 11 p.m.
Fierce flames that shot from the house extended to a neighboring occupied home causing an immediate evacuation.
Crews performed a search of both homes for injured at trapped occupants, but fortunately, there were no victims.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control in just under an hour.
There were just over a half-dozen residents displaced.
