EMS rushed a female victim to University Hospital suffering a serious head injury after the woman was struck by a vehicle in the city's downtown.
The incident happened shortly before 9 p.m. on Broad and Market Street where emergency responders were called to the scene for a pedestrian injured by a vehicle.
Arriving EMS units located the woman suffering serious injuries and began to administer first aid before they made their transport to the hospital.
It is not immediately clear if the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene.
The incident is being investigated by the Newark Police Department.
UPDATE 10:21 p.m. The woman is around the age of 18-19 and was struck by a white van (possibly Sprinter) that fled the scene.
