Serial Shoplifter with Over 36 Charges Arrested in Bloomfield

Police in Bloomfield have taken a serial shoplifter into custody after he allegedly stole from two additional stores in late June.AdBloomfield Police officials reported that on June 26, 2024, Mr. Monty Maryland, 50, of Newark, NJ, was apprehended.

Officers responded to a shoplifting report at Aldi’s located at 244 Bloomfield Avenue.

According to the store manager, a male suspect took multiple containers of Tide detergent and left the store without paying.

Bloomfield officers were able to locate the suspect nearby with the stolen goods and placed him under arrest.

Maryland was then transported to Bloomfield Police Headquarters.AdAdditionally, police officials stated that on June 26, 2024, Maryland was arrested on a warrant related to a shoplifting incident that occurred on May 17, 2024, at the Dollar Tree located at 600 Bloomfield Avenue.

He is accused of allegedly loading up a cart of items and pushing it out the door of the store. 

Monty Maryland has been charged with more than three dozen shoplifting offenses.
